Changing Adverts – Where Do You Click?

March 15th, 2009 by JezC Leave a reply »

This screenshot shows the part of the screen with the link to click to change an advert. Click on where it says “edit” to change the advert. Note that this does two things:

  • It *DELETES* the current advert and *CREATES* a new advert
  • It adds the advert to the queue of adverts for Editorial Review – so it may not show for several days.

It is good practice to always run at least two adverts in each AdGroup, so you can progressively increase performance, without ever having a period of no advertising, caused by Editorial Review Delays.

For the precise reason you mention (it creates a new ad) I usually never edit ads at all. To avoid editorial review getting in my way if I want to edit an ad, I create a new one, wait for it to start getting impressions then delete the old one.

I never thought that the edit is deleting/re-creating till now. This makes a lot of sense. @ Martin that makes logical sense.

What tab are you under? I don’t see this screen anywhere on my campaign.

Hi Jerry – that’s old screen from the previous AdWords User Interface. We should put up a new article for the new UI! In the new UI, select the Ads tab, move the pointer over the advert you want to edit, and notice the “pencil” icon in the upper left of that advert box? When you click on the advert, you are offered the option of editing it – with a warning about the way in which an edit works.
