Whoa.

Is that a Google AdWords toll free phone number?… [rubbing eyes] …yes, it is!  I wonder if someone will answer…..

Someone answered! A real live person!

I just learned that Google is offering account setups with 30 days support to new advertisers.  Advertisers will be placed with an AdWords representative who will setup the AdWords account and support the advertiser for 30 days.  The AdWords Reps are available during the 30 day period to answer questions.  Once the 30 period ends the AdWords Rep will review the account with the advertiser to explain the account performance.  The purpose of this offer is to help advertisers get off to a good start and educate them at the same time.

I have heard about Google initiatives like this in the UK but did not know they were trying it here in the US.

I asked the AdWords representative if there was a minimum budget that needed to be met to quality for the setup and 30 days support and I was told “no” all advertisers qualify.

I also asked if Google plans to offer a paid support option if advertisers wanted further help and was told no.

Interesting.

As always, comments are welcome!

    I called too!!

The person I talked to forgot to mention the 30 day support. Even though I specifically asked, “so you are setting up accounts for people that do not know how to then manage them”.

Very Interesting, and I like the additional commitment to small advertisers.

  2. Thanks for the comment Tom. I am glad to see Google offer the service. There are too many advertisers who get off on a bad foot and never see the potential of AdWords because they do not understand the system.

What would be interesting is to see how their own staff handle things like landing page quality score for affiliates…do you think they would go through the motions for the accounts that would never even get off the ground?

All in all I think it is a good idea and probably far more effective in educating the advertiser than the old phone support option. They get a dedicated rep that works with them for 30 days, although not a big amount of time a good start.

    Take Care Tom.

You got the screenshot! Well done! I saw this about 2 weeks ago and before I could think, I logged in. When I logged out, it was gone and I couldn’t reproduce it.

Support for 30 days, VERY interesting.

Good question about the affiliates Low LPQS too, I have a feeling some enterprising affiliates will use this service multiple times to at least get some lines drawn as to where the gray area is.

Wondering if they can answer questions like “Well, if I can’t advertise my quality site, why is ask advertising for my keyword and letting me put my advertising on them?”.

Either Google will regret this or they’ll use this to train in new staff who can’t answer the questions anyway :)

  4. Hi Dave,

    Thanks for the comments!

That screenshot software is the best investment I ever made :)

I wonder if Google is doing this because they have seen a negative effect to their revenue following the dramatic cut-off of customer service. I think they really need the small advertisers to push the larger advertisers. The auction would be much less interesting (and profitable for G) if there were less small advertisers in the game. The better small advertisers do with their quality score the higher it pushes the bids for the advertisers ranked above them….just my thoughts of course :)

    Take Care Dave!
