The AdWords Content Network continues to become more transparent and powerful and the URL list option allows advertisers yet another level of transparency to better optimize their account performance.
This feature allows one to see the actual page within a website on the Content Network that generated traffic for their website.
Say you are using Automatic or Managed Placements on the Content Network, first go to the NETWORKS tab to ‘show’ the list of domains that your ads appear on.
.
Here is a sample of the domain detail that I received when I ‘show’ my automatic placements.
.
.
Now, that is excellent, I can evaluate each domains traffic volume, ctr, conversions, etc. However, what is really nice is I can easily look even deeper with the ‘see URL list’ feature by selecting a domain on the list and clicking the ‘see URL list’ button.
.
.
What you will receive is a greater level of detail on the chosen domain – in this example: about.com. In the screenshot below you can see the actual domains and pages that generated the traffic off about.com. As you see from this screenshot I have a few pages that convert well, one with a 80% conversion rate. I will be adding this specific page to my Managed Placements list by using the button shown in the screenshot below.
.
.
Here is another example for the domain: destination360.com. As you can see the advertisers ads appeared on multiple pages within the domain, some were not relevant pages so I excluded them. Others were great pages therefore I will add them to my managed placements list and adjust bids or ad text as necessary to get the best performance from this domain.
.
The URL list makes optimizing the Content Network just that much easier. I suggest all advertisers on the Content Network take a look at this extra level of transparency to see where they could be improving their Content Network return on investment.

Hello Kim,
I just want to ask you i was invited to a adwords account by a friend of mine. Do i also pay for the bill of that account? Sorry for asking I’m a newbie on adowrds…
Mrs. C.,
Greetings. It is nice to now you have a day job and are not just in the Google Help Forum! Hey, you are flat out classy compared to those others who moderate and as I said before, it is an honor being banned so many times by you from the Google Forum.
Web Goorrilla,
Your message cracked me up a little ;)
Sorry to say but I have to pass the blame on when it comes to banning you in the AdWords Forum, I dont have that capability. I dont work for Google. I can mark a thread as spam if I see one and it deserves to be marked as such. So if you were spamming the forum then I may have done that, but again, I cant ban you. I can tell you that there are Google employees dedicated to keeping the AdWords forum free of spam and they work hard and take pride in how clean the forum is.
If you were just having a good old fashioned rant on the forum I would not even consider marking that as anything abusive…I love a good rant as much as the next person, if you poke around here long enough you’ll see that ;)
PS was there are problem you were having with your adwords account?
Kim
@Kim – I suspect “Web Goorrilla” is referring to AdSense more than AdWords. He runs a service to help AdSense users start up again, after a suspension.
This is UNBELIEVABLY HELPFUL! Just saved us a bunch of money that we would have wasted on irrelevant pages.
Thank you!

Excellent to hear! It is amazing how many little tips and tricks there are to improve that ROI!
Hello Kim,
I currently have a great performing GCN campaign using image ads and three are lots of high converting sites/pages. Right now, the ad groups are in automatic placements for keywords. I’m definitely thinking about running a managed placement adgroup/campaign.
My question: I have 4 options here and frankly I’m scared to touch this golden campaign. Do I:
a) add the sites to the existing adgroups and increase managed placement bids.
b)do the same above but DELETE the keywords.
c) create a separate ad group just for managed placements (and eventually exclude the targeted placements from the old adgroups).
or d) create an entirely new campaign just for managed placements.
I’d appreciate your thoughts…
Marlon, It is difficult to say without knowing all your goals and the current account setup.
My initial thought would be to create a new campaign around the display network domain and then use the See url list feature to dig deeper into the actual internal pages in the domain that have been successful so far. Take those internal page URL’s and dump them into the adwords keyword tool website url feature. Let the tool extract keywords from the internal URL page content and then use the extracted keywords (relevant to your efforts) in a new adgroup. Use of these extracted keywords in your KW list, ad text and landing page content will make your adgroup a highly contextually targeted match.
