Can you tell me how a sponsored ad was placed for the Kansas City Chapter of the American Red Cross? The search words “red cross” and “donate” bring up a sponsored link to our Web site. No one here knows how it got there, and our national office wants us to pause it. Any help would be appreciated.
Duane Hallock
Director of Marketing
American Red Cross of Greater Kansas City
Hi Duane – intriguing problem. I can’t think of any way for you to identify the entity that is advertising on your behalf. You can prevent it, or your national organisation can, by asserting TradeMark protection on “Red Cross” and denying other advertisers the right to use the TradeMark in adverts. That’d be onerous though – any US Red Cross organization would then need to apply to Red Cross nationally to use the TradeMark for local advertising.
The advert link shows as “http://www.google.com/aclk?sa=L&ai=CpIrJEwVMSfmbFND_-Qbig73DDuWu4STBwI_kAuStmxkIABABUN6_nPoBYMkGyAEBqgQWT9CZgfiaF_zTU516rRqIFIPJ66UzAg&sig=AGiWqtyD70ONkKY7ESVz9ztWoxf1OpyXoA&q=http://www.kcredcross.org/Donate/Index.asp%3FIdS%3D001837-F3F3620%26Reference%3DHowToGive%26~%3D”
In that jumble of characters are clues as to where the advert is published and by whom – indecipherable to people outside Google. I’ll ask MrsC, who is near the GooglePlex, to raise this with one of her contacts there, and we’ll see if we can get some action.
I keep getting emails that my ad was stopped because of my URL. I chose the first option of “http: //” then inserted my website www .FarOutParties.com
I don’t see what the problem is. Can you?
Thanks in advance for your help.
Nancy
I have used google adwords and spent only a small amount with google £80 per month and the same with yahoo. I realy could not afford this so after six months i cancelled my subsciption with them. I have a shop on ebay and amazon where most of my sales come from .My site has been up for about 9 months and the sales are about 2% of the sales from ebay and amazon.
I need help
Mike
@Nancy Shriver – There are two types of URL in AdWords. The Display URL and the Destination URL. The Destination URL is the bit that needs the “hhtp:” selecting. The Display URL is at the bottom of the advert copy. Although the Destination URL does not need to be the same as the Display URL, the final website, after redirects and frames and so on, must end up the same as the Display URL. Chances are that you have managed to get some mismatch submitted.
@mike carter – Sounds as though you used insufficiently precise targeting (choice of keywords, perhaps imprecise adverts, language and geotarget). It is very easy to ineffectively spend large quantities of money on AdWords. At $80/month spend, it is unlikely that you can afford to have a professional set up and manage your AdWords – but you can’t rely on Google to optimise, especially at that level of spend. Using AdWords effectively does mean investing in time to learn it, or to hire someone that has invested that time.
FRUSTRATED! I need help. Many years ago I was at the top of the heap on my own merit. Now, I can not even see my site in the search results. Adwords do not seem to be working for me. Could you please contact me about your services to see if you could help.
Hi Anthony,
Thank you for contacting us and I am sure we can help. I will forward your request to our coordinator and we will see that you receive a follow up from our team members.
Thanks again for contacting AWHE. We will be in touch shortly.

I’m curious about what your service entails and what the costs are.
I’m looking for some help to get my adwords campaigns up and running better.
Hi Randy,
each of us offers different services. Broadly, we’ll each do variations of:
* setting up accounts from scratch
* managing accounts, including bidding and improving advertisments
* landing page improvements
* conversion path improvements
* troubleshooting – rescuing customers from problems
Costs are hard to give, but doing an audit of an existing account with written recommendations for improvement and no phone consultation will typically start at around $100.
I have a competitor burning thru my adword $$$$. They are non-ethical competitors. Is there a way to block I.P for an area or what possibly can be done?
Your feedback is most appreciated.
Mike
Hi Mike – yes, there’s a lot you can do.
I am trying to set up an ad in Google adwords. My webiste as you can see is longer than 35 characters and I have tried to contact Google several times for an exception. I am not getting any response and am pulling my hair out!!!!! HELP Thanks
As hard as it is scammers are here to stay, education is the only way for people to learn. Sometimes people need to learn the hard way, they think something is such a good offer they have to buy it. The old adage “if it’s too good to be true – it probably is” seems more prominant these days.Great post
Hi,
I have recently read that Quality Score is based on exact match impressions only. From what I have read I understand that quality score is only impacted when someone does a search for the exact keyword phrase that is listed in an ad group-regardless of whether your keywords are set to exact, phrase, or broad match.
If this is correct, if a user search’s for a phrase that is not an exact match to any of my keywords does this mean that none of my keywords will be credited with a “quality score” for that search?
I am somewhat confused as to the role of quality score on exact match impressions.
Any examples or help would be grreeeaaattttt!
Leah, as a matter of fact, you don’t seem to be confused at all. Both your understanding and your conclusion – even though you posted it as a question – are absolutely correct. You may want to read some additional info on exact match here:
* Remember The Exact Match Option
http://www.adwordshelpexperts.com/2009/01/remember-the-exact-match-option/
Thanks Lakatos. After reading your article am I right in thinking that I should have an exact match for every variation of broad and phrase match keywords so I can get the quality score?
Should I comb through the search query report to look for phrase match’s and broad match’s that continually recur so I can upgrade them to exact match and remove from them broad and phrase match.
I need help with everything!! i’ve gotten as far as where i am in the section (campaigns) on goodle adwords. from here i would like to be able to post ads. since i’m at the page for creating an ad, i type in all the info i received from clickbank.com. i found one of those links to promote. now down at the bottom after i entered all the information i hit “estimate search traffic”. if it gives me below a certain number….when should i say no? then down at the bottom where is says “clicks per day” and “cost per day”. where is says “cost per day” is that howw much it is going to charge me each day? and how do i find out how much i will make? can i just enter the information from the link i found on clickbank.com and enter it in the “campaigns” section on google adwords? PLEASE HELP! I’VE BEEN LOST FROM THE VERY BEGINNING!!
I am trying to subscribe to this forum. How do I do that?
Hi Dave, you can get a feed of postings in email if you use the upper right box that says “Subscribe to AdWords Help Experts by Email”. This interface is a blog; you’d be interested in a forum? It’s fairly easy to put one up, and I’ve been toying with the idea of doing so.
i need help, i’m a computer service technician and owner of a small computer repair business in a major city in Canada. i’m not very experienced with web marketing at all, and i seriously have no time to learn this field, i can barely keepup with the updates for computer hardware, data recovery, networking and webhosting. i need to be listed way up top on google, yahoo, msn, and bing search engines. of course the more search engines the better. as well as advertising with adwords the most effective way possible. if you can get back to me ASAP regarding a quote that you can provide, please let me know. thanks in advance
Hi,
My Name is Dilip Singh Chouhan & I am from India. I just wanna ask a query from you, Actually, I am doing Advertising with Google Adwords since 3 months. I started Advertising with Google Adwords for November End and I was running 2 Campaigns in my Account and they were Smokeless Cigarettes & Internet Money Making and wanted to clear one more thing that I am not Promoting Google Money Tree or Such other products which Violates Google Terms & Conditions. My product is Genuine, I mean its not a Re-bill offer. The product take $47 from Customer and pays my $30 for that. Hence, I also wanted to tell you that my ads having good quality score between 7-10 for all my Keywords and I have no Problems with my LP and all other thing.
Just 4 days ago my all ads were stopped, I don’t know what was the problem. Hence, I forwarded mail to Google Adwords Support but still I not got reply from them. I also contacted Google Adwords Sales Support India, they saw all my pages and told me that my all LP were good and having no problem to promote but instead of start to this Account they are more interested to promote on new account. Now, please tell me what is the problem with Adwords Support.
Madam, please look this issue and tell me where is the problem if you found any problems with my ADS, Keywords or LP please tell me I would do the change but this not a way to stop all ads and telling that now You And Your Account Fucked Off. Please don’t mind but some persons told me this on some Forums.
So, I am requesting you to help me for this. If you found any problem please sent me a message I will definitely change that but please try to start my Ads.
Thanks,
Dilip Singh Chouhan
Hello, I have a new web site and my first one. All my keywords say “RARELY SHOWN DUE TO LOW QUALITY SCORE”. How can this be corrected? I have changed and added different keywords but the same statement keeps showing.
Thank you, Wayne

Hi Dilip,
You may have run into a possible account investigation because of the products you are marketing. Google is touchy about ’smoking’ products and accessories, and yes, even ’smokeless’ cigarettes can get your account flagged.
Also the money making product. Google is also careful about the money making products because there are many people promise wealth with these types of products. Many of these ‘get rich’, ‘instant wealth’, ‘make 300/day from home’ products have been reported as scams and there have been many people who lost vs. gained money from these programs.
I am not saying what you are promoting is a scam because I do not know for sure…however, I think google flags and investigates these types of accounts often.
I really suggest that you contact Google directly through your account pages and ask that is going on. I have my ‘hunch’ but only Google can say for sure what is going on.
Good Luck and let us know how things go.
Kim
Hi Wayne,
The dredded “rarely shown to low quality score” huh?
That is never fun to see
I would start with identifying if the issue is due to poor keyword scores or a poor landing page quality score.
Follow this link to a FAQ I developed. The link will take you to a portion of the document that will walk you through identifying the source of your quality score issue and following the document from that point may help you identify the reason for your low quality score.
Let me know how it goes, what you discover and if you have any further questions.

I need help. I am the owner of my business but I can’t get top billing (#1) spot over the booking agencies. I don’t mind them being listed but I want to be first since it is my business.
Thanks!
Hi Danny,
The top spots on adwords are reserved for advertisers that meet a certain quality score and bid threshold. You may need to raise one or the other to get yourself in that top spot. If bidding higher is not an option then work on your CTR to improve your quality score. Just know that it takes time to improve the QS and you may need to see a few thousand impressions before you see any shift in QS.
Here is a link to an AdWords FAQ I developed with a section on evaluating and improving CTR. http://www.adwordshelpexperts.com/adwords-faq/#howdoievaluateandimprovectr
